things

I'm 35 years old, closing in on 36. I married a younger man (I *think* he's 32). My husband and I have been together 8 years but just got married in July 2008. We have two dogs who are probably the loves of my life. I clean a lot, eat a lot, complain a lot and like to take long walks preferably on a beach, except that we live in Arizona and the closest beach is hours away.

thursday!!

Happy Thursday.   I’m in another hop today after having not participated in one in a while.  I especially like this one because it will also take you to the page where people link up their giveaways.  The below button is only for blog hopping and not the giveaways.    I have yet to win a single giveaway but know a few people who seem to win a couple every month.  LUCKY!

My husband was (is) out of town on an overnight business trip, he’ll be back today.   I was a little sad last night when I was sitting there eating dinner alone without him.  But at least it was only one night!  we’re not joined at the hip but we don’t spend a lot of time apart, if that makes any sense.

the other night our snake threw up two dead mice he’d eaten the day prior.   i only tell you this because if i had to smell that, you have to read about it.  and maybe create your own visual.   i’m just thankful he threw them up just before my husband left because there was no way i was sticking my hand in that tank with a hungry snake.

to get or not to get

Lindsay Lohan is going to jail right now, no idea why I’m so excited about this.   Ever since Paris Hilton was forced to serve time, when most of these starlets get off with a few hours in jail, I’ve felt like all of them should go to jail.    I spend way too much time reading gossip sites……

So yesterday was our anniversary, and it was kind of a weird one because we didn’t actually celebrate the day of.  That Alaskan vacation was kind of an anniversary present to each other.   We had a nice anniversary weekend.   We went to the movies and out to dinner and Sunday night we had grilled salmon and champagne.  But Monday, the actual day of, I was at home sitting on my butt and he was at work.    And then at dinner I wrote  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY on his napkin in silver sharpie because I’m classy.

I am considering getting a kitten.  I have never had a cat in my life and am semi allergic to long haired ones.  It’s a very big decision for me based upon that alone.  What if i accidentally get a kitten that I think will be short haired and ends up long haired?  can you shave a cat?  anyway, my husband has had cats and he’s not worried about this at all.  he knows how to introduce them to dogs.   I am such a worry wart when it comes to my furbabies.    What if my dogs hate the cat?   Can’t we all just get along?

I have friends with cats, and some of their cats I have only seen once or twice.  Cats just kind of walk around self sufficient, which I think I might like.  But then I might also be sad that this cat ignores me.    For those of you who have cats, any difference between males and females that should be noted?

Nothing ever sounds like a good idea to me the first time around, i overthink everything.  I think i should just go to the humane society and get a kitten.   what do you think?

happy anniversary

Happy Anniversary to me.  I mean US!   Two years ago today at 6:30pm we got married at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas!

We almost had an Elvis wedding but I watched a few online and realized I am not THAT outgoing.

A few years prior to getting married we were watching this show on TV called The Casino. It followed the two dot com owners of the Golden Nugget and the changes they were making to the vintage casino on Fremont St.  We were so intrigued by that show that we started going to the old strip instead of the new strip and staying at the Nugget.    If you have never been to Fremont St. it’s not as fancy or big as The Strip but it’s old school Vegas and you get more bang for your buck.

The Nugget has been completely redone and is gorgeous inside and out.    So when we finally decided to get married, the Nugget seemed like the obvious choice.

First of all, my wedding invitations were in the form of an Evite. I think you have to know me to appreciate this. I have sent out multiple evites in the past that made it look like they were invitations to shotgun wedding receptions, but when you opened them you’d see they were just invites to a poker party.   so this time I sent out an invite to a poker party in Vegas AFTER we got married.    I had to add that we were actually serious this time!

Planning a wedding in Vegas is easy if you do it at a Casino chapel. and if you have a future MIL who is willing to do most of the leg work. I picked a time, place, menu and flowers.  done.   I planned my entire wedding at work via fax.

I ordered these magnets as favors, keeping in line with the casino theme.

We booked the fanciest hotel room, the one we were saving for a special occasion.  One bedroom and two stories, and because it’s on Fremont St. it’s at least half the price you think we paid.

Everyone we invited came, we had a total of I believe 28 at the wedding, including us.

My girlfriends all came by before the ceremony for pre wedding mimosas!  this was when I realized i was bloated, barely fit into my dress and should have brought the spanx.  hi i am fat not pregnant.  That’s my $37 wedding dress!

Then we got married. Whoah, are we bored!  I asked for the shortest ceremony possible.  it was still like 15 minutes.  the minister said our last name wrong, and that set the tone for the rest of the wedding, i had the giggles.  Then he said Holy Matrimony, like Robin  would say HOLY MATRIMONY BATMAN

And done.  And please place your flowers or your new husbands hand strategically in front of your bloated belly.

Now let’s party

OK, not so much party as have dinner and cake.  The food was awesome

Afterward we all went out onto Fremont St and gambled and drank and had  a merry time.

Then we drove home back to AZ the next day and lived happily ever after.

The end.

another one

I haven’t really worked much the months of June or July.  first there was the Alaskan Vacation in June that required 7 days off.    Then there was the 4th of July long weekend, followed by me taking this past Monday off and this Friday and Monday off as well.   I’m not complaining, I’m still 100% caught up at work because when I know I need to get things done, I get things done.

This weekend is my anniversary weekend.  TWO YEARS on Monday.  I’ll be reminiscing about my awesome Vegas Wedding on Monday.    It was really only a half elopement as we were engaged about 6 weeks.  I’m very impatient about some things.   Apparently I could wait 6.5 years to get married, but once we decided to get married I needed to fast track the whole thing.     And the only two things I would have done differently would have been to have a different hairstyle and I’d have worn my SPANX!!!  I still think getting married was a lot of fun and I’d love to do it again but he’s not into that idea.

I have a massage booked for this afternoon.  I’m actually not looking forward to it because I don’t feel as if I  need it today.  But I know that once I get on that warm comfy table, I’ll be glad I’m there.

happy anniversary

This was not my anniversary present, but just a present to me from my husband because I wanted a plain band to wear.   I had to give in and agree to platinum instead of white gold, still a win for me.

my weekend started off with a visit to the COACH store, the last three times I went I couldn’t find anything i wanted and this time I found at least 5 purses.  I ended up buying two, with only minimal guilt.

We spent the night at the Royal Palms in Scottsdale.   The resort is very pretty and there are gardens and fountains all around.  When you get there, you don’t have a choice, you are just going to valet your car.   Everyone was really super friendly and a little confused that we didn’t want help with our bags or anything.

After check in we went to the lounge and had drinks for about an hour.

We stayed in a Spa Suite, which was not without its faults.  The TV’s in both rooms would randomly change themselves to channel 0.   I’m pretty sure a ghost was involved. The shower was also broken but the maintenance guy repaired it in just a few minutes.

half of the living area, in front of the couch is a massive entertainment center that had drawers full of exercise equipment.   underneath the couch is a massage table if you want in room massage.

the bathroom was an area between the living area and bedroom.  there were sliding doors on either side for privacy.  to the right of the tub is a STEAM shower.  I soaked in that tub and watched some TV this morning.

one side of the bedroom

directly outside our porch

We had room service for dinner and breakfast, which was kind of tricky because there wasn’t a table to eat at.   We kind of just ate in the living room using that ottoman and our laps or the floor as a table.

I would definitely go back to this resort, but I’d try a different type of room. Maybe next year!

Today (our actual anniversary) we’re just hanging out at home with the dogs.  I took tomorrow off to be even more lazy.

shoo fly

our intended lazy weekend hasn’t really worked out that way so far.  we were on the run nearly all day yesterday and lazy Sunday turned into clean the house and work on the yard Sunday.   But that’s fine, because this coming weekend is a 3 day for both of us, we get July 3rd off.  Weekends should be three days by default.

I baked a Shoo Fly pie today and learned that the smell of molasses makes me kind of want to throw up.   Neither one of us has ever had a shoo fly pie before, so i’m not sure how I did.  I do know that I don’t like it.

What a crappy few weeks for celebrity deaths.   David Carradine, Ed McMahon, Farrah, Michael and then Billy Mays.      We’d been watching Billy Mays show Pitchmen, and as it turns out it was a really good show.

It’s almost our one year anniversary, I can’t believe that a year ago I was buying a $38 wedding dress and desiging my wedding rings.   I also can’t believe that a year ago Icey agreed to marry me.  what was he thinking?

wfh

Work from home went permanent as of last week, so now I know for sure that I get to keep working from home a couple of days per week.   I’ve already started asking to switch my days to  M-W-F, but so far they aren’t biting.    I should be happy with what i’ve already got (and i am) but it never hurts to ask for more.   Now I don’t have to quit my job because i swear to jeebus I was going to if they took away work from home.  You can’t let someone do that for 6 months and then go, ‘oh it’s not working out, come back to the office full time’.     no way, no how.

We did decide to stay in town for our anniversary next month.   Icey had a great idea to just stay one night at a luxury resort.   So instead of a spa suite in vegas we’re getting one here.  In the end it’s going to be about 1/3 of the cost of going to Vegas.   It’s not nearly as fancy but close.  the selling point was the steam shower, we LOVE steam showers.    And since it’s the middle of summer in AZ, the rates are great.   So we’ll spend the night there, have a fancy (hopefully room serviced) dinner (and breakfast) and maybe i’ll book a massage or something, who knows!  you only get one first anniversary, unless you get married again to someone else.  or get divorced and then remarry each other later.

Then just one month later we’re going up to the cabin!  I’m hoping there are some horses up at the ranch that weekend because I think it would be awesome to see how the dogs react.

now just need to get that all booked…….

anniversary

Our one year wedding anniversary is next month and we’d semi sort of decided to go back to Vegas and stay in that swanky suite again.   I’d been waiting around for a really great deal to come thru, but you’d think the recession was over at the prices they’re charging still.    frugality got the best of me as it often does and i was pretty torn on whether or not we should go. while there is still always a small possibility i think we’re just going to stay in town.

but the suite. THE SUITE!  two stories of beautiful and not nearly as pricey as you’re thinking

instead i think we’re going to do a anniversary/birthday combo and pack up the dogs and head to a cabin up north.     it’ll be a lot cheaper and i also won’t have to worry about being without my babies.  not as glam as vegas of course, but i prefer the dogs over glamorous.   i’ll be 35 this year and icey is pretty sure 35 isn’t some kind of fun milestone where you get big parties and nice gifts.  i think it is.

engaged

one year ago today icey got down on one knee and proposed to me.  ok not really.   We just agreed on it in the kitchen after work one day, basically just like Carrie and Big in the SATC movie.

SIMS 3 came out yesterday and it showed up unexpectedly at my house!  I didn’t know Icey’d bought it for me.   Some of the enhancements are stupid and are taking a while to get used to, but some of them are also pretty good.  Navigation is a lot harder now and the sims sure do have to pee a lot more.    I made a sim with a personality kind of like mine and she’s having a hard time making friends.   everyone just thinks she’s ‘okay’ and she annoyed someone so much he asked her to leave, he said she was behaving inappropriately.

long day

sometimes weekends feel long, and this time it’s not in the good way.    I feel kind of stressed out because i realized that it’s this coming weekend we are going out of town and i’m not at all prepared for it.  I still have a ton of things to do.   shopping, cleaning, getting the guest room ready, getting the doggy checklist written out.  I can probably do all of that in one day, and i’ve taken Friday off just for that reason.    I know that in the end everything will be fine and i’ll have a great time in San Fran, but i’m always stressed out about leaving my dogs!!!

Actually I think that i’m just always stressed out.    I am right on the edge of going to  a spa and getting a spa package with a massage, facial and pedicure.  and if you know me, you’ll know that is something i’m pretty intimidated by, but i think i need the stress physically taken out of me and lots of people swear by spa treatments.

my husband set me up with a fancy fast new to me laptop.  so now I have two and one is basically just for watching movies in the tub and taking on vacation.   it’s not like i’m spoiled or anything….   we are actually sitting basically side by side right now both typing away on our laptops.  i should probably instant message him instead of speaking to him out loud.
