baskets
My friend Cat and I did the Bountiful Baskets this morning. There was a bit of confusion (probably only on my part) when we got an email that said YOUR PICK UP TIME MAY HAVE CHANGED. when I signed us up there were two choices for pick up 7am and 7:30am. i went with the 7:30am. then suddenly on the website there are 3 times. 7, 7:20 and 7:40. so we just showed up at 7:30 and it was no big deal. Everything in the basket was basically stuff I was going to buy today. Cat got the lone cantaloupe and basket of strawberries. I got the celery. but we both got bananas, tomatoes, nectarines, carrots, blueberries and bell peppers and maybe something else i can’t remember.
Last night I randomly looked in my spam folder in email. normally I just delete everything that is in there without looking because i don’t need a larger penis or rolex watch or viagra. and that’s all that’s usually in there. but i saw an email from Philosophy and opened it because i love Philosophy. And it was a b-day E-gift card from my mother in law! HOORAY. I went straight to the website and spent it. I ended up with these 3 in 1′s (shampoo, shower gel, bubble bath)
calm me (it’s lavender scented)
pineapple coconut
red velvet cake
vanilla birthday cake
Philosophy stuff is an indulgence I would never purchase for myself.
The dogs are currently on a partial raw diet, stew meat on top of a little bit of dry food. Voodoo, the big one has turned savage now. Any plastic baggie you take out of the fridge he assumes is full of steak for him and he follows you around all cracked out. We’ve only been doing it about a week but it seems like they are a little more feisty.
interview
First of all, I was interviewed over at Friday Follow , it’s just a quick interview about my blogging history.
2nd. It’s Thursday hop time, and this is the only hop I’m doing today.
I’ve recently become addicted to sending away for free samples because I’m convinced that it will save me money. I might never have to buy shampoo/conditioner or feminine hygeine products again. I’m even getting treats for my dogs! I’m checking the mail every day because I’m so excited to see what’s going to show up that day. Yesterday was tampons. whoo hoo!!! hahah. I got a new email address specifically for this, just in case these companies decide to start spamming me.
Still iffy on the kitten. People are really 50/50 on cats. You either love them or hate them, there doesn’t seem to be anyone in the middle when it comes to cats. I was told by a couple of people that if you treat the kitten like you treat your dogs, it will grow up more cuddly and into you than a cat would normally be. I have only had dogs and I make them very codependent (which i love) and we have formed a very tight ‘dogpack’ in our home. It’s our fault, we should have socialized them more so that going to the dog park or taking them to friends houses who also have dogs, would have been easier. But you live and learn. And honestly I can’t say that I mind too much that they can’t live without me!
to get or not to get
Lindsay Lohan is going to jail right now, no idea why I’m so excited about this. Ever since Paris Hilton was forced to serve time, when most of these starlets get off with a few hours in jail, I’ve felt like all of them should go to jail. I spend way too much time reading gossip sites……
So yesterday was our anniversary, and it was kind of a weird one because we didn’t actually celebrate the day of. That Alaskan vacation was kind of an anniversary present to each other. We had a nice anniversary weekend. We went to the movies and out to dinner and Sunday night we had grilled salmon and champagne. But Monday, the actual day of, I was at home sitting on my butt and he was at work. And then at dinner I wrote HAPPY ANNIVERSARY on his napkin in silver sharpie because I’m classy.
I am considering getting a kitten. I have never had a cat in my life and am semi allergic to long haired ones. It’s a very big decision for me based upon that alone. What if i accidentally get a kitten that I think will be short haired and ends up long haired? can you shave a cat? anyway, my husband has had cats and he’s not worried about this at all. he knows how to introduce them to dogs. I am such a worry wart when it comes to my furbabies. What if my dogs hate the cat? Can’t we all just get along?
I have friends with cats, and some of their cats I have only seen once or twice. Cats just kind of walk around self sufficient, which I think I might like. But then I might also be sad that this cat ignores me. For those of you who have cats, any difference between males and females that should be noted?
Nothing ever sounds like a good idea to me the first time around, i overthink everything. I think i should just go to the humane society and get a kitten. what do you think?
Happy Tuesday

Turns out the weird lump the Voo has is only a fatty tumor. GOOD NEWS! We’re joking that he’s trying to grow his balls back.
The vet we go to is the one that saved his life when we first got him. We like going there because it’s small and not part of a chain of vets. But their first answer for everything is surgery. I am not going to put my dog into surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary. I would rather biopsy anything on them or see a specialist who can better determine what is wrong with them, than throw them into surgery at the first sign of anything.
The Phoenix Suns won game three against the Lakers on Sunday? night, so lets hope that tonight is another repeat and that they win again!!! Poor Steve Nash’s face, that guy really takes a beating. He got a small nose fracture at the last game. A few games prior he got a nasty shiner and it closed his eye up.
Have you ever noticed that it seems like only fat guys do The Worm? Hilarious
voodoo on thankful thursday
Yesterday we had to take the big boy to the vet. He’s not of hearty stock, that one. The little one is as hearty as they come. She’s been sick twice in her life and both times it was something she caught from another dog.
He has a newly formed lump in his groinal region. It’s just a fat deposit, right? We’ll find out soon.
When we got him from the Humane Society 7 years ago we thought he was just a real chill 6 mos old dog. Turns out he was really sick. So sick that the vet thought he had distemper and would die. In the end it was just a really really really bad case of kennel cough. And ever since then I swear it’s been one thing after another.
He has bad hips and couldn’t go up the stairs for a week. we put him on liquid glucosamine and the whole family camped out downstairs for a couple of days to be with him. That glucosamine fixed him right up and now he bounces around like a puppy.
Two weeks ago he was limping with his front leg, not sure what happened there but it looked a lot like he was doing a pimp stroll. He’s fine now.
He’s had butt problems, not of the pooping variety but of some weird different nature. He had to go to a specialist for that one.
And then there was his eye infection that he got in a matter of minutes.
Literally he was fine one minute and then the next he looked like this. He’s not just tired.
When I got him to open his eyes you can see something is not right. They are rolled back. MY BABY. I cried for days after he looked at me like this. off to the emergency vet we go because he never gets sick on a weekday
I stayed home from work for a few days to be with him, that’s not weird. and then a few days later he was happy again!!!
This was so long ago, none of the furniture in the background in any of these pics is in my house anymore. Also the folded up chairs in the hallway behind him lead me to believe we just had a poker party. what a bad mom i am having a poker party while my baby has an eye infection. i bet i won money tho. I was probably hustling to pay for his meds.
Anyway, if I had to pick something to be thankful for today it would be that he’s still here and still kicking it with us. He’s a great protector dog, responds to the word HELP and would jump between you and anything to save you. He also runs out the door as fast as a race car when the smoke alarm goes off, so he’s not going to save us from a fire anytime soon. He’s kinda like George Costanza on Seinfeld when he pushed and old woman and children out of the way to get out of a smoke filled apartment.
cinco de mojo
Today is my baby girls 9th birthday. They grow up so fast.
I’m not that fond of the 2nd picture, but I just wanted to show her cute little gray face. she’s got gray eyebrows now that are actually very expressive. Fortunately for us she acts like a puppy. She’s hearty stock and there’s no stopping her.
I also became an aunt today. I don’t have any brothers or sisters of my own so I will have to rely on my husbands family to produce nieces and nephews. This is one big disadvantage to being an only child. But I’d say that being an only has a lot of advantages too. For instance, all the presents under the tree were always for me.
I gave myself a blister that’s transformed into a callus on my hand from too much carpet cleaning. intervention?
Last night my DVR/Cable box went ‘clunk clunk dead’. if you know me you know this is basically the end of my world. fortunately for me it was nearly bedtime and I still had a fully functional TV and DVR upstairs. After work I ran to the cable store and got a new DVR. And a fancy new remote because I wore out the fast forward on the old one.
weekend update
Well these pictures certainly turned out better than I thought they would.
The Conan show was great. We got there pretty early, found a parking spot in the garage across the street right away and made it in the theater without having to wait in a line. There was no special guest at the Phoenix show. Jim Carrey and Eddie Vedder and Jason Mraz had been guests at previous shows, and judging from comments online, I wasn’t the only one disappointed. I’d never heard of his opening act Reggie Watts, but he was a pretty funny guy. Of course Conan made jokes about Labamba being taken away by the polices since we just passed that idiotic SB1070. Tho we did amend some of the wording so that you can’t just willy nilly be asked if you are a citizen anymore, it needs to be during a stop or crime, or whatever the legal mumbo jumbo actually said.
I went to the spa for my long massage and note to self, we like light pressure. none of this medium to firm crap. I just had a massage 2 weeks prior and I was still full of knots, I’d rather work them out nicely and softly than with any kind of real pressure. I did join the Spa for a membership and made sure it was easy enough to get out of if I decide to cancel. Massage is something I know I need to do for my mental as well as physical well being. I can scrimp in other areas to make this happen.
Sunday was supposed to be a day of rest. Which to me means doing laundry, running very few errands and cleaning up around the house. Somehow we ended up looking at model homes most of the day. It’s good practice for the future if we ever do decide we’d like to move into a new house. We seem to be in agreement on houses, we both can walk in and within the first few seconds decide if we like a house or not. Out of the 30 we looked at, I could have only seen myself living in two of them.
I’ve learned my lesson, you don’t settle for things you’re going to be spending a lot of money on.
Voodoo has been limping around since late yesterday afternoon. We have no idea why, but the jerk still wants to run around and play and run up and down the stairs. So whatever is ailing him isn’t messing with his head. When his hips were hurty and he couldn’t make it upstairs, you could see in his eyes that he was sad. He just wasn’t himself. So of course we’ll monitor him today and see how he does and in the meantime he’s enjoying the pampering and extra attention he’s getting.
I don’t think these pictures clearly convey the difference in the carpet, but my new carpet cleaner really does = l<3ve.
This is a side by side of the clean vs. the dirty.
hallway before and after.
still a little dirty and a little stained, but it’s a carpet cleaner not a miracle worker.
no matter how clean or dirty it looks after steam cleaning, the dirty water that comes out of the machine when I’m done is satisfaction enough, of a good job done.
Icey and I are both off work today (monday) we’ll be chilling, i’ll be doing laundry and hopefully watching the Zombie movie I downloaded and also taking a quick trip to go look at a house for sale near our home. And yes, I’ll probably be cleaning some more carpet.
painting
Today the painters showed up bright and early. Today was spent mostly prepping the house by filling in the cracks and repairing the stucco. if you’ve seen my house you know repairing the stucco is a full day job. Our patio fascia was rotting away and now it’s been replaced.
also the posts at the bottom that had chipped away down to the wood, were completely repaired. The main reason I went with this company aside from the fact that they were very nice was because they could repair this patio.
Dealing with the HOA has been tough, and that’s all I’m going to say about that!
We did almost have a pink tinged house. the color we picked, that looks just like our house color is not exactly our house color and will turn pink. There is a house down the street with a slight pinkish hue to it and I hate it. So we’re going with Cashmere instead, I just hope that was a good decision. It’s in the beige category so I guess I can’t go wrong.
The dogs did good aside from barking their faces off when the guys first got here. Then they’d forget the painters were here or something and then they’d see them again and the barking would start all over again. Once when I was on the phone with my boss…….
So the painters will be back the next two days and I expect a huge transformation.
oy vey
the day started out real nice. I took a shower and put on a bra, two things I rarely do on a Saturday. My husband is leaving for about a week and I thought that having a clean and put together wife would be a bonus on his last day here.
I did my grocery shopping and then we went out for a nice breakfast together. Then it was off to the mall to find me a dress to wear to Phrainqs wedding next week, where we ran into the bride to be!!! She said the wedding starts at 9:30 so be there on time or get locked out, sounds like my kinda girl. I’m all for being on time and can fully appreciate anyone who feels the same.
I did find a dress after going to two malls and two freestanding stores last week and walking out with nothing. The dress is super cute, almost Lucille Ball-esque, but without the polka dots and full skirt.
We were on our way to one more mall and Best Buy when Icey got a notice that his flight out tonight was cancelled. Way to go Jet Blue, cancelling a flight just hours before takeoff. Not only does this affect Icey, it affects his two younger sisters who were on the same flight. And who did not even get notice their flight was cancelled.
Jet Blue kept me on hold waiting for a customer service rep for one hour and when we finally got thru, whoever Icey spoke to turned out to be less than helpful. Her idea of helpful was basically to say sorry, laugh at our misfortune, and can we fly you out Wednesday instead. No? Too bad so sad then.
Needless to say, that reservation was cancelled and Icey’s stepfather came thru and found him a round trip flight. Thank you Andy, what a lifesaver. Then we spent some time online and got the girls flights out as well, but they won’t be leaving until tomorrow. Which is loads better than Wednesday. And they won’t be on Jet Blue.
Now Icey is leaving a few hours earlier than originally planned so I basically packed for him while he ran around outside getting the house ready for the painters this week. And we never made it to Best Buy so I hope whatever he needed wasn’t too important.
Since he’s leaving earlier I get to take him to the airport, which kind of makes me sad. But he’ll also be coming home hours earlier so that makes me happy.
This week the house is getting painted (hopefully) and I had taken Wednesday off to be home while this was going on. I figured that would make it easier on the painters and also on my dogs. After Icey and my friend Cat both suggested asking to work from home that day I finally got up enough courage to ask. I expected a big no, but my boss said yes without hesitation. I wasn’t expecting that at all So this week I get to work from home THREE days in a row. Which makes me feel better on so many levels. Now I get to stay home with my dogs while the house is being painted and I don’t have to use a vacation day.
things
I want a pedicure, a haircut and this dress. Or at least a dress close to that. Today I went to two malls and could not find a little black dress. The stores are mostly into spring things right now and those don’t fit my vision. Either that or they didn’t offer much in dresses at all. I have one more mall to try this weekend, and i really wanted to avoid the mall on a weekend.
House painting got pushed off a few days. which in the end has worked out better for us because we apparently need more time to get ready for them. We are always busy doing something, but for the life of me I cannot tell you what we spend our time doing.
Icey went out to Phrainq’s bachelor party Friday night and i’m not normally the type of girl who gets sad, lonely and bored when she’s left alone. But Friday night I got sad, bored, lonely AND pouty, so i went to bed at like 8pm.
My dogs stink. Anyone want to come give them a bath?
