I’m not really as good at this staying home and doing nothing thing as i had hoped.   Yesterday I took a walk bright and early before it got too hot.  then i spent nearly the entire day cleaning until i finally settled in to watch a movie.  But today I managed to not get out of my pajamas.   and probably the only reason for that was because at 9am it was already effing hot outside. I really wanted to go and thought about sweating it out.  I got some new shoes I want to break in, but it was srsly just way too hot.

Then a movie came on this afternoon that I always watch when it’s on TV and just today I realized I’d never seen the first 5 minutes.    But before that I mopped and vacuumed the entire bottom floor, brushed a dog, cleaned the kitchen,  oh and watched a TV show in the tub, so maybe i did make some progress today.

Today Icey and I are 5 years smoke free. 

maybe by now we’ve undone all the damage we did.

i ordered a new dyson for nearly half the cost of what you pay in stores.  i have used and abused my old one like you would not believe.  it’s fallen down stairs, been rammed into walls and is generally falling apart.  the new one got here last week.  it’s the ball one, which is kind of hard to maneuver until you get used to it.   and even tho i had just vacuumed the day before with the old one, the new one was nearly full after going over the living room.  my carpet actually does look nicer (for my carpet).   The old Dyson is now the upstairs dyson, because i’m too much of a princess to lug a vacuum up and down the stairs.

Our neighbor Phil’s friend Warren came to town and apparently thinks doing odd jobs is FUN.   he pulled out all of the bushes in our front yard, assisted by his 4 tiny helpers (2 dogs and 2 kids).   the 6 or so random and stupid bushes we had in our front yard were just a mess.  they had bad placement and it made no sense.   it looks a lot better now and we plan to start over with small bushes that we pick out on our own and that we plant exactly where we want them.

ohhhhhhhhhh my vacation is getting closer by the day.  I had one dr. appt on tuesday morning of that week and just as i was talking about cancelling and moving it, they called and cancelled and moved it themselves. HOORAY!  so now i only have one place to be for sure that week and it’s the spa.  i’m nervous and excited about going to the spa, but i think that i’m really going to end up enjoying myself.  the rest of the week i’ll be eating, cleaning, watching tv and movies, taking long baths and hanging with my dogs.  i might even read a book.    this weekend i’m making sure i get all my shopping done so that i don’t have to go out if i don’t want to.   and now i feel even less guilty about taking this ‘me’ time since I have to take an extra 5 days off this year anyway.  i can’t believe i’m this excited to stay home.

the garden has been almost fully harvested at this point, only the artichokes remain.  pretty soon we’ll (Icey) will plant the second round of vegs.  i think there are squash and habaneros involved this time.    it’s been a learning experience for sure but i think our first round was successful since we got A TON of carrots and some really good parsnips and cabbages.

last night, there was a police helicopter flying around for a little while and then they started using the loud speaker and shouted out a message.  well we freaked out because i was sure we were in the middle of an episode of Cops.   so we go outside to listen (which looking back wasn’t smart, i mean what if a random shooter was on the loose) and it was for a missing girl in the area.  then our phone rings and the caller ID says REVERSE 911.   so i answer it and it’s a message about the missing girl.  turns out she disappeared after school a few blocks from our house.  then the doorbell rings and it’s the COPS going door to door.   we found out that she is a friend of the two little girls who live in our cul de sac.   then around 11 last night she knocked on some neighbors door, all safe and sound.  they aren’t saying where she was or what happened.

I found out yesterday that our company won’t let us carry over 15 days of vacation anymore.  A lot of us did that because you never know when you’ll want to take that extra long trip to europe or when an emergency will come up.  Now we’re only allowed to carry over 10.   which means that this year I have to take an extra 5 days of vacation.    i’m not heartbroken about it at all and like the idea of being forced into taking the extra week off.    it actually came at a pretty good time, my boss is constantly asking me to take more time off even tho I already take 23 days off a year.    what he really means is take more than one day off at a time.   sometimes three day weekends just aren’t enough to recharge you.

kid rock was one of the best things i’ve ever seen with my own two eyes.   We pushed our way up front, which wasn’t too hard considering the VIP section was right in front of the stage.   those tickets were worth every.single.penny.   and would have cost hundreds more if it were at a different venue.    266 pictures were taken of him, about half of which were actually in focus!!!  or mostly in focus anyway

i’m so mad because he’s touring with lynyrd skynyrd this summer and not coming back to AZ.  poo.

i finally did it and booked my very first ever spa appt.  i’ll be getting a swedish massage, facial and pedicure.   if i enjoy it, i just made icey’s job at gift giving that much easier.    The place I am going to is next to the Coach store, which just spells trouble.

we didn’t get upgraded to 1st class on the flight home, only because that flight didn’t even have a first class section.  so we paid a couple of bucks to get more leg room.    everyone seems to be charging for luggage now, which i think is a total ripoff.   

for years i have thought about taking a week off work and just staying home, but there were always so many other things I wanted to use my vacation days on.  but this month i finally did it and requested an entire week off from work.   I am really excited about it, I’m just dying to stay home and do nothing.   I’m trying not to feel guilty about using 5 vacation days just to take a week off for no reason.   I don’t have any real solid plans but i’m thinking about making a mid week appt at a day spa.    we’ll see.  

Friday is Kid Rock night.  i’m prettttty excited about that!
