things

I'm 35 years old, closing in on 36. I married a younger man (I *think* he's 32). My husband and I have been together 8 years but just got married in July 2008. We have two dogs who are probably the loves of my life. I clean a lot, eat a lot, complain a lot and like to take long walks preferably on a beach, except that we live in Arizona and the closest beach is hours away.

recent haps

our equivalent of a jesus in toast, or hot pocket, or cheeto or pancake.  it’s a happy face in burrito juice!!!

i think good things are definitely acoming.

lookit, it’s grass.  we haven’t had grass in 5 or so years!!!!  i think in the next month or so, the whole yard should be filled in.

i am so happy it’s a holiday weekend.  So far, two days in and I haven’t been able to sleep much past 5am.  Icey is turning into me and was up before 6am yesterday and the Voo got him up around 6 today.   But we had a pretty busy yesterday.   shopping, cleaning, home repair….. Icey’s not been around much the past few weekends because he was helping to build a pretty kick ass deck at his dads house, so i was excited to have him around.  yesterday he grilled up some burgers and dogs and zucchini for dinner.   I baked oatmeal raisin cookies and chocolate cupcakes .  it was my first attempt at not only cupcakes, but chocolate ones at that  and they are pretty tasty.

I bought this for my weary feet.  my feets always hurt from too much walking and just generally having stupidly shaped and freakishly skinny feet. it looks like it’s going to hurt but it actually tickles for a little while. but after you get past that, WOW does it make your feet feel nice.  added bonus it also feels nice on your back and the dogs seem to like it too.

these are our artichokes.  i think they’re on their way out so i’m going to cut a couple off today and steam them.

i’m supposed to be spring cleaning this weekend but the lack of sleep is making me lazy and i have a headache.

Barack me Obamadeus

Yesterday I left work at noon and then had a cheeseburger for lunch/dinner.  So man, my day was off to a great start.

We rode the lightrail up to ASU, which was fun and pretty fast, it felt like we couldn’t have driven there that fast.   The station is fairly close to sun devil stadium so the walk there wasn’t terrible.  We waited in line about half the time I thought we would have to and about 10 minutes after I reached my miserable threshold but never passed it, we got thru security, rented some chair cushions and found Icey’s family.  our seats were shaded which was lucky and a huge bonus because the folks on the other side and the end of the stadium had full sun for HOURS.

We saw Air Force 1 fly in which was pretty awesome, we also saw the motorcade arrive, it wasn’t a full view, we happened to be able to see them thru a small opening in the back of the stadium.    Alice Cooper performed a song with his sons band and there were a lot of other performances by groups/clubs from the university.

then the president came out and gave a really great speech.  It wasn’t the ten minute special like I assumed, i think he spoke for about 30-40 min, i’m not sure.    Then he even stayed to shake the hands of all the Doctorate students and presented the barack obama scholarship awards to high school seniors.

when we left we were totally ahead of the game but the roads were blocked off for the motorcade and we got pretty lucky and ended up with a front row view of him leaving.  motorcades drive FAST.   even with the huge delay, we made it onto the lightrail pretty quickly and were home by 10:30!!

Even tho i spent a couple of hours hot and sweaty it wasn’t nearly as bad as i thought it was going to be, I was prepared for so much worse.  And totally worth it.

el presidente

tomorrow Icey and I will be at ASU for his little sisters commencement.   where the president is speaking!!  First of all, thank you, Icey’s sister, for graduating this year.  and then thank you Icey’s brother for not being able to attend, so I could have your ticket.

It’s going to be ROUGH.   hours in the sun and heat, with 63,000 people.   long lines, long waits and 100*+ weather.   Let’s take bets now on how many people pass out.  The guy on the news said to bring umbrellas to shade yourself but I’m pretty sure they are on the ‘prohibited list’  as are fruits that can be used as projectiles and liquids of any sort.  darn.

dog tired

i’m not sure if he got too hot in his castle or started to come out and then realized he was still tired, either way it was hilarious.

I think lately he’s been going in there to get away from his sister.  she’s gotten herself a little attitudey alpha dog problem lately and is busy picking on him.    she won’t go into the castle so if he needs to be alone he’s got a place to go.

wtf

I love it when I come across random things that make me bust out laughing.   I’ve watched this a dozen times.

stuff

it was Mojo’s 8th Birthday on Tuesday.  I made her cupcakes and then took pictures of them to post and then lost the pictures because I either can’t figure out how to work my camera or Vista sucks for uploading pictures.  I’m going with Vista sucking.  So anyway, yeah, i made her cupcakes.  peanut butter carrot cupcakes and they do not taste good.   but the dogs seem to like them and they were way easier to make that human cupcakes.

We bought a tiny fig tree for the back yard and Icey planted it over the weekend.   That should be the last tree we needed to get to replace all the ones we lost in the freeze.   Voodoo really likes the tree, probably because it’s so tiny and it makes him feel like a giant.    All of the things he (icey not voodoo) planted in the garden a few weeks ago have started sprouting.     I wish i could just live on a real farm!

this week i’m addicted to chocolate and pancakes so today i had chocolate chip pancakes.  do you think it would be gross to put some captain crunch in them too?

for pd

my at home vacation was great.  i took walks most mornings, i took a bath every day.  I watched a lot of movies and found some new TV shows on Netflix and Hulu to watch.  I am so addicted to TV it’s not even funny.

the spa was good too.   The massage wasn’t weird like i thought it was going to be, the facial and pedicure were more weird.   I would definitely go again.   I’m thinking about getting a membership to massage envy, my work offers us a discount because it’s considered ‘healthy’.  My company went on a health kick last year and raised the amount you have to pay for benefits unless you participate in some kind of health and wellness thing. i read it as blackmail.  mostly because that whole thing was obviously aimed at a certain type of person.   i felt i should have gotten a discount based upon my lifestyle.  but then I married icey and took his insurance instead.

Icey planted our 2nd round of stuff in the garden last week, i think this time it’s more carrots, habaneros, peas, green beans and maybe jalapenos, i’m sure i’m missing something else.  We might be able to pick the artichokes this weekend and then that’ll free up another bed.   I wish we could grow cake.  or bacon.    The citrus trees are doing really well and I think that at the end of the year they will all have a ton of fruit on them.

I was re-enrolled in the work from home thing, so it seems as if i’ve been approved to do this permanently.  I think.   The pilot is up in June and I never heard any rumblings about it going away after that, so i’m pretty confident that i’ll get to keep doing this.
