things

I'm 35 years old, closing in on 36. I married a younger man (I *think* he's 32). My husband and I have been together 8 years but just got married in July 2008. We have two dogs who are probably the loves of my life. I clean a lot, eat a lot, complain a lot and like to take long walks preferably on a beach, except that we live in Arizona and the closest beach is hours away.

LOVES/LIKES

interview

First of all, I was interviewed over at Friday Follow , it’s just a quick interview about my blogging history.

2nd.  It’s Thursday hop time, and this is the only hop I’m doing today.

I’ve recently become addicted to sending away for free samples because I’m convinced that it will save me money.   I might never have to buy shampoo/conditioner or feminine hygeine products again.     I’m even getting treats for my dogs!  I’m checking the mail every day because I’m so excited to see what’s going to show up that day.    Yesterday was tampons.  whoo hoo!!!  hahah.   I got a new email address specifically for this, just in case these companies decide to start spamming me.

Still iffy on the kitten.   People are really 50/50 on cats.   You either love them or hate them, there doesn’t seem to be anyone in the middle when it comes to cats.   I was told by a couple of people that if you treat the kitten like you treat your dogs, it will grow up more cuddly and into you than a cat would normally be.   I have only had dogs and I make them very codependent (which i love) and we have formed a very tight ‘dogpack’ in our home.  It’s our fault, we should have socialized them more so that going to the dog park or taking them to friends houses who also have dogs, would have been easier.   But you live and learn.   And honestly I can’t say that I mind too much that they can’t live without me!

Hooray for free samples! Dog treats huh, I’d love to know where to get those…. :)

I didn’t weigh in on the on the cat issue earlier because I’m allergic so I don’t usually fall into the cat camp…. We’re dog people to our bones! :) But, I’m all for adopting any animal that needs a home. Best of luck deciding!

  • I looove samples ! I order a lot when I have time.
I love cats. I hug them, pet them, kiss them, I hold them…and every cat I have had has been cuddly, sociable, friendly. They usually stay in my arms when I pick them up. Yay for cats !!

Jen, thank you so much for your kind words in that interview. It made me tear up! It means a lot to me.

That’s a great idea about free samples. I’ve never thought of that, but I might have to start doing it. Especially feminine hygiene products. That stuff gets expensive!

Good luck deciding about the kittens. I am such an animal lover, but I completely understand your hesitation about them interacting with the dogs. Let us know when you decide what you’re going to do!

I love getting things in the mail. It’s exciting. Do you find yourself being added onto junk mail lists because of everything you are signing up for?

i always thought dogs were better than cats, too.
    i had 2 growing up.
we live near a very wooded area, lots of deer and fox, and raccoon, and other animals that you are not really sure what they are!
anyway, a few years back we heard crying in our locked shed. we were having a few days of terrible downpours.
my husband and i went to the shed, unlocked it, and voila, there was this pathetic looking, tiny, emaciated all white kitten crying its little heart out. there was no way he could have possibly gotten in there, but he did. it was like by magic. i gave it a saucer of milk and opened a can of tuna. it ate like it hadn’t eaten in a long time. i called a mobile vet and she came to the house … poor dear had fleas, worms, and ringworm. i got it a rabies shot and medicine for all the rest. more expensive than taking my kids to the pediatrician! anyway, i wanted to adopt the cat and bring him in, but it turned out that we couldn’t get rid of the ringworm and that is highly contagious. the vet said the cat [she put him at 9 months old]was lucky to have someone care about him, and he would come and go, but just maintain him as a feral pet. so that’s what we did. even my husband fell in love with him, and he is not an animal person. i named the cat ‘napoleon’ because he captured my heart, and since i only had dogs in my life i treated him as such. let me just say that this cat would come to me when i called him and when i would say, ‘napoleon, let’s take a walk’, he would walk beside me down the street. my neighbors were amazed.
so i do believe that if you treat a cat like a dog, they will act like a dog, in that they won’t be aloof and cold, the way many cats are. you can dispel that myth with a lot of love and attention.
